Albert Renger-Patzsch
Albert's photographs seem to be focused on large buildings and objects with unique architectures and objects that look like they repeat despite one or two few differences, what I find interesting is the fact that he also looks into similarities within nature rather than just looking at manmade objects this adds a interesting perspective to one of two of his photographs and separates him from other architecture photographers. Albert always related his photos to soldiers and order which means even though some of the objects don't look exactly the same they are still placed with the others since they do the same thing. There are other photos he has done which are more disordered than anything else but still follows the princable of having objects repeat throughout the image.

This image with these trees looks as if the objects nearer to the camera are darker than the objects further away in what looks like fog, this photo has a lot of depth due to the trees seemingly going on forever even though the fog, this photo on the whole looks less ordered than the one with the tools but it has more depth and looks more rhythmic.

This image with these tools seems ordered and it seems to go on further back and to the side like it's been mass produced with light materials at the bottom and dark materials at the top of the photograph which contrasts with the bright background nearer to the top and the dark floor. The use of line, contrast and tone make this picture interesting but it seems a little to ordered to me which makes me like the photo with the trees more.

With these photos I wanted to mix urban and natural photography and the idea of ordered and disordered in the pictures above. I feel that all of these photos came out really well especially the photo of my jacket on the tree within the concourse, this mixes the idea of urban and natural photography as well as confusing what was the primary focus of the image since it could of been the background, the tree or my jacket but in fact it was all three, the only disappointing thing about this photo is the fact the photo is way to bright but I made sure to turn the brightness down on the photos afterwards.

100 images
For my 100 photographs I decided to go out for the day around Eltham, Eltham library, The Pleasants/Tudor barn and Eltham crematory, for all of my photographs the theme I based them off of was Albert Renger-Patzsch's work in which I noticed he mainly photographed things that where geometric and repeated over and over again in ether a ordered or disordered patterns in ether urban or natural environments. I found in my photos that they all split up in certain groups due to the places I took them being so different to each other even though they are only a small walk away from each other, such as some areas of Eltham are completely modern such as parts of Eltham library and the Tudor barn, some are mostly modern and being renovated to be even more so such as Eltham high street, some areas are decaying and are not modern at all like most of the back alleys from Eltham high street and some areas are decayed nearly completely and are defaced such as the Eltham crematory. This got me interested in Urban areas and how much they can differ depending on how often they are visited and why some are completely left to be defaced and whether they can change from defaced to modern or modern to defaced with some factors being changed. I found that repeated patterns where oddly common throughout Eltham in all areas I visited which surprised me since I was expecting to see a strong difference in each place (in this order from most to least: mostly urban, slightly decayed, modern, decayed.) but in actual fact they all had around the same amount although some where hard to spot (ladders, E.C.T) and some looked rather out of place for the area (art deco staircase in back alley, modern fence next to the decayed pathway in cemetery) which linked back to my previous idea. In all I believe my photos so look like some of Albert's due to the unique look of the environment being hard to replicate and patterns repeated in different ways. During the task I found it really hard to take 100 photos in such a short time limit but in the end it took me a total of 7 hours to take 108 photos I was happy with around Eltham, next time I hope to explore other urban areas and a modern area outdoors. One place I hope to explore in the future is around the O2 to the Central London so I get a wider range of pictures throughout London so I can compare the photos I have taken with them. My favourite area to take photos out of the areas I explored today would be the modern and slightly decayed areas because Modern areas have many interesting patterns that are usually disrupted after some time which means they don't stay around very long, while Slightly decayed areas have many similarities to all of the other areas apart from they have paint torn off the walls and graffiti around the place but have weird concrescences for the surrounding environment which is interesting to look at. (Paint coming of the wall exposes the previous paint used there and graffiti makes the environment more messy but colourful at the same time.)
I chose to take these photos in colour unlike Albert's photographs because I wanted to catch the difference in colour and shape of each area I went to in each of my photographs so that I can compare and contrast the results of each area to each other and inspire some of my later work with the results I find from the photographs which were inspired by Albert Renger-Patzsch |
Clonestamped images from my 100 images.
For these photos I used Clone stamp on Photoshop, to do this I needed to hold down the ALT key on my keyboard and select a piece of the photo which I want to replace over another part of the photo I believe this work out for all three of these photos. The stair case in the alley photo was most definitely the hardest since I had to remove an entire building and replace it with part of the staircase and I had to make it look natural and different to everything else in the photograph some how I managed to do this very well and it looks as natural as I could possibly get it with my limited skill on Photoshop. with the other two photos primary the alley way entrance I replaced part of the photo with the sky while the alley photo I also add part of a building in the background to get rid of a shop sign and part of the floor to get rid of a manhole cover.
